PREVIEW: Apeksha Niranjan to explore the eyes through Bharatanatyam recital ‘Nayanam’

 

Bharatanatyam dancer Apeksha Niranjan will present her production ‘Nayanam’ in Delhi at the India Habitat Centre on 14 June 2024, Friday, at 7 p.m. Apeksha has trained under gurus Dr. Sucheta Chapekar and Dr. Alka Lajmi.

According to the press material, ‘“Nayanam” is a thematic exploration of the myriad emotions and expressions conveyed through the eyes. Apeksha’s recital delves deep into the significance of the eyes as the windows to the soul, portraying their ability to define beauty, communicate emotions and enhance the storytelling aspect of dance.

‘In Bharatnatyam, the eyes play a pivotal role, serving as a powerful medium of expression, transcending language, race and culture. Through her recital, Apeksha will showcase how the eyes serve as a conduit for communication, conveying a spectrum of emotions ranging from joy and love to sorrow and longing.


‘Speaking about the inspiration behind “Nayanam”, Apeksha says, “Eyes are not just organs of sight; they are portals to our innermost feelings. They hold the power to captivate, to convey the unspoken, and to transport the audience into the heart of the narrative.”

‘The performance will also touch upon the concept of “Antarchakshu”, highlighting how individuals without physical sight perceive the world through their inner vision, exploring realms beyond the tangible.’
